Green Suites Project Planet has donated more than six thousand individual personal care products in July to aid the Joplin, Missouri relief effort. The May 22 tornado destroyed over 8,000 buildings and leveled 30 percent of the Joplin area. It is now labeled by the National Weather Service as the deadliest tornado in more than 60 years.
ACSDR (Adventist Community Services Disaster Response) received the donation of environmental soaps, shampoo and lotions on behalf of the Joplin residents. In response, Sue Jarvi, ACSDR Volunteer Office Manager said, “The products Green Suites Project Planet donated are exactly the kind of personal care items people desperately need here, and the donation has already been given out to the victims of this devastating disaster.”
By shipping directly from their warehouse located Michigan, California-based Green Suites Project Planet could expedite their donation of Sonoma Soap Company personal amenities in recyclable paper bottles “In a world of crisis fatigue, this disaster just jumped off the page. We couldn’t be happier to help. The need is so great that our contribution doesn’t dent the enormity of it. We hope larger, like-minded companies will step up as well”, says Dan Bornholdt, President of Green Suites Project Planet.
In addition to the personal toll exacted by the storm, an estimated 500 businesses were severely damaged or destroyed by the storm with more than 5,000 workers affected. The long term needs after the tornado and how they will be met is a continuing challenge for the community. Individual and corporate donations to aid the Joplin relief effort are encouraged through ACSDR by calling toll-free, 877.ACS.2702 or visiting www.communityservices.org.
